With over 3500 known Cockroach species in the world, only around 50 or so are found in the United States.

Out of those 50 or more species only about six species occur in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson. Every species of Cockroach is important because of their role in our environments, Cockroaches can carry disease and cause severe damage over time. Out of the six species of Cockroaches in the Las Vegas Valley only one is considered to be the MOST important, and they call them the German Cockroaches.
Although other species of Cockroach like the Brown Banded Cockroach are similar in size, appearance, and behavior they don’t match up to the destructive potential of German Cockroaches.German Cockroaches are the only species that depends on human structures for survival, German Cockroaches don’t want to be outside and have adapted right alongside us for centuries. Most species of Cockroaches in the United States simply are not native to here and are considered imported pests, the German Cockroach is no exception!
German Cockroaches like other Cockroaches will pretty much eat anything so it isn’t too hard for them to find something to eat living around us. Over the centuries we as humans have come a long way in sanitation and maintaining our living and working areas but nothing is perfect and insects will always find a way to discover a food source. One unmoved trash can in your kitchen can easily become a perfect home, food, and water source for hundreds of Cockroaches!
